Heidi's free plan sounds great. Here's what you actually get.

Heidi free plan: Unlimited basic consults, but capped at 10 "Pro Actions" per month — that includes AI note customization, Ask Heidi prompts, and template edits. Built for physicians, not therapists. Notes often need significant editing for mental health workflows.

TherapyScribe Notes — $5/moType or paste session bullets and get a full structured clinical note. All note types, AI assistant, unlimited — no action caps.
Heidi FreeGood for brief medical consults. Hits a wall fast for therapy — 10 Pro Actions runs out in days, and the physician-first design means mental health note formats need heavy manual editing.
Mentalyc — $14.99/moTherapy-focused and well-regarded, but at $14.99 you're getting typed notes only. No voice or recording at this tier.
Voice & Dictation — $12 to $30/month

AutoNotes won't sign your BAA. That's not a footnote — it's a dealbreaker.

AutoNotes compliance warning: AutoNotes claims HIPAA compliance but does not sign Business Associate Agreements and explicitly prohibits uploading Protected Health Information. Every identifier must be stripped before processing — shifting all HIPAA liability to you, the clinician.

TherapyScribe Voice — $12/moSpeak your observations after a session — 5 minutes of voice input generates a full structured note. Half the price of either competitor, BAA signed, full AI assistant included.
Upheal — $29/moA solid therapy-focused EHR with built-in telehealth. If you need scheduling, billing, and notes in one platform, it's worth a look. But no ICD-10, no frameworks, and 2.4× the price for voice-only workflows.
AutoNotes — $29/moNo BAA. No PHI uploads allowed. You're responsible for stripping identifiers before every note. Not a compliant solution for most practices.
Full Session Recording — $49 to $150/month

Heidi jumped to $150/month. It was built for physicians — not for you.

Heidi Clinician plan — $150/mo (2026 pricing): Heidi restructured pricing in 2026, nearly doubling the cost. The platform is powerful for multi-specialty clinics and physicians, but therapy-specific workflows — treatment continuity, psychotherapy note formats, clinical frameworks — aren't its strength. Notes regularly require editing to meet mental health documentation standards.

TherapyScribe Record — $49/moFull session recording, 120 sessions/month, therapy-native note formats, 16 clinical frameworks, ICD-10 suggestions, AI assistant with 8+ modes, consent management, group practice billing — and a signed BAA.
Heidi — $150/moThree times the price. Excellent for medical teams, but the therapy workflow gaps are real. You're paying for features built for physicians. Heidi Evidence (clinical decision support) is impressive — but not relevant to psychotherapy practice.
AutoNotes First Class — $69/mo$20 more than TherapyScribe Record, still no BAA, still no frameworks, still no ICD-10. The only real upgrade from their $29 plan is adding live recording.

† A note on data training transparency

TherapyScribe does not use client session data, transcripts, or notes to train AI models — ever. Your data is yours. We use Azure OpenAI and Deepgram under signed HIPAA BAAs; neither provider trains on your data under those agreements.

Heidi and AutoNotes do not clearly state in their public-facing materials that they will never use clinical data for model training. We recommend reviewing their current privacy policies before sharing session content.

Upheal requires explicit opt-in consent before any recorded session data is used for training — a more transparent approach, though still something to review before enrolling.

Funding: Heidi Health has raised ~$98M (Point72, Blackbird, Menlo Ventures). Upheal has raised ~$14.3M in VC funding. TherapyScribe is independently operated — no outside investors, no pressure to monetize your data.

Comparison data verified April 2026. Always review each vendor's current privacy policy and BAA terms. This comparison reflects our best understanding of publicly available information and may not reflect recent policy changes.
